ABOUT THE WORK

Artwork Description

A Black woman in a black and white patterned dress stands in calm profile on the right side of the canvas, her body grounded and present while gazing into a violent chromatic storm that dominates the left two-thirds of the composition.

The background is heavily worked with impasto texture: thick, gestural applications of pinks, blues, greens, yellows, grays, and whites create atmospheric turbulence—as though the painting itself is weather, emotion, or consciousness made visible.

The woman's stillness contrasts dramatically with the chaos.

Her patterned dress (black and white geometric or floral) anchors her in clarity and reality while everything around her dissolves into swirling texture, drips, splatters, and layered paint.

She is the calm eye, the witness, the one who remains solid while reality fragments.

The heavily textured surface shows evidence of palette knife work, thick paint application, and multiple layers of color built up and scraped away.

The composition suggests resilience, observation, presence amid chaos, the power of remaining centered when everything else unravels.

THE ARTIST'S VOICE

Interpretation / Story

Winds of Chaos explores the psychological terrain between the seen and the unseen — a meditation on emotion, memory, and the fragile thresholds of identity. The work invites contemplation of inner landscapes and the quiet movement of thought beneath form.
