ABOUT THE WORK
Artwork Description
A young boy reaches upward from textured stone, his small hand extended toward something beyond vision.
Behind him, suspended within watery depths, a woman floats in mysterious surrender—her face obscured by foam, bubbles, or perhaps the dissolution of memory itself.
A white dove soars through the composition, wings spread in flight between earth and water, between loss and hope.
The palette moves from weathered stone grays and aged turquoise to aquatic teals, golden ochre, and chalky whites.
Heavy texture creates actual depth where water meets stone, while alcohol inks suggest the fluid boundary between drowning and dreaming.
The bird becomes messenger, the boy becomes witness, the woman becomes everything submerged and unspoken.

THE ARTIST'S VOICE
Interpretation / Story
Interpretation: This haunting piece addresses maternal mental health, childhood trauma, and the experience of watching someone you love disappear beneath their own struggles. The boy's gesture is both plea and prayer. The woman's submission could represent depression, dissociation, or the overwhelm of motherhood itself. The dove suggests hope, divine intervention, or the soul's persistence even in drowning circumstances.
WHAT LIVES INSIDE
Hidden Images & Symbolic Elements
Hidden Imagery & Symbolism: The reaching hand represents childhood innocence seeking connection with the lost or unreachable. The submerged woman symbolizes maternal absence, depression, dissociation, or death—her obscured face suggesting identity lost beneath overwhelming circumstances. The white dove carries traditional symbolism of peace, spirit, and divine messenger, bridging the gap between living child and drowning woman. Stone and water represent opposing elements—solid grief versus fluid emotion.
