ABOUT THE WORK
Artwork Description
An owl emerges from the swirling deep, its amber eyes fixed and unblinking, ancient as the first watcher in the first forest.
A human hand hovers near its feathered head—not quite touching, not quite separate—a gesture that suggests communion, blessing, or the quiet acknowledgment that passes between seer and seen.
The background churns with iridescent pours of paint: turquoise, violet, rust, and red swirl together like oil on water, like the surface of a scrying mirror, like the fluid architecture of a mind unmoored from linear time. This is a visionary painting.
The owl is not metaphor but presence—the emissary that appears when consciousness tilts sideways, when the membrane between waking and dreaming grows thin enough to see through.
The marbled chaos is not backdrop; it is the substance of thought itself, rendered visible.
The hand reaching toward the owl could belong to anyone in a trance state, anyone who has ever asked the darkness a question and received an answer with feathers.Painted on a circular canvas, the composition suggests a portal, a lens, a pupil dilating.
You are looking through the round window of altered perception, and the owl is looking back.16 × 16 inches (circular).
Mixed media on canvas. "In the parliament of swirling thought, creative energy nests in marbled chaos."

THE ARTIST'S VOICE
Interpretation / Story
Marbled Consciousness explores the psychological terrain between the seen and the unseen — a meditation on emotion, memory, and the fragile thresholds of identity. The work invites contemplation of inner landscapes and the quiet movement of thought beneath form.
WHAT LIVES INSIDE
Hidden Images & Symbolic Elements
The owl is the classic psychopomp, the guide between worlds. In shamanic traditions, the owl represents night vision—the ability to see what others cannot, to navigate by moon logic and instinct. Its orange eyes are twin suns in the underworld, points of focused awareness in a sea of dissolution. The hand is the bridge between human and animal, between self and Other. It does not grasp or control; it offers presence. This is the gesture of the mystic, the one who has learned to meet the spirit world without fear or demand. The hand is also your hand—the viewer's entry point into the vision. The marbled pour mimics the visual distortions of altered states: synesthesia, the dissolution of edges, the sense that all things are fluid and interpenetrating. The colors—purple for the crown chakra, turquoise for the throat, rust for earth—suggest a full-spectrum activation, a psychedelic opening of all perceptual gates. The circular format is the mandala, the medicine wheel, the all-seeing eye. It suggests wholeness and containment—this is a bounded vision, a ritual space. The owl does not escape the circle, nor does the viewer. Both are held within the geometry of the experience. The texture and iridescence of the paint itself becomes symbolic: this is consciousness made tactile, thought given shimmer and dimension. The Pebeo paints catch light like beetle wings, like the surface of a soap bubble—beautiful, fragile, temporary.
